Carlisle To Moffat - 27th July 2012

Refreshed, clean and well fed, we set off to Scotland, crossing the border at Gretna Green, which had all the charm of any other tourist coach party destination.

The Border!

An interesting observation was that, according to our GPS, we had already climbed twice the height of Everest at this point.  I'm not convinced of the accuracy of this, but we certainly did a lot more "up and down" in England than we did in Scotland, where the climbs were slower and longer, but didn't keep dropping you down again on the whole.

Along the way we passed through Lockerbie - the sit of the famous bombed PanAm plane.

The town (village?)  of Moffat was rather charming. We stayed in a B&B run by a couple of gay guys that was immaculate.  The town was once a spa town, and the centre of the wool trade, It remains rather genteel, and has a thriving artistic and walking community, and specialises in all things sheep.
